Begin with the handling location and cargo flow
The most useful RFQ category starts with where cargo moves and how the terminal is organised, not with the appearance of a crane in a photograph. Use the STS category when the enquiry concerns transfer between vessel and quay. RTG covers container-yard enquiries where the crane travels on tyres, while RMG relates to yards or handling areas served by rail-mounted equipment. A mobile harbour crane category covers mobile quayside handling enquiries for different cargo types. These labels organise the request only; they do not mean that a particular capacity or configuration is automatically available or suitable before project details are reviewed.
Information for an STS enquiry
For a ship-to-quay requirement, identify the port and berth location and provide the target vessel dimensions as supplied by the project, together with required outreach, height and load information. Attach the quay layout and known rail, power and interface details, and state whether the request concerns new equipment, an extension, replacement or modernisation. Describe the intended container-handling cycle and customer requirements without turning them into performance claims. When vessel or berth information is preliminary, label its status, range, source and date so it can be reviewed during qualification rather than treated as confirmed design data.
Information for an RTG or RMG enquiry
Start with the yard layout, container flow and loading and unloading areas, then add the required stacking arrangement and expected operating pattern. For an RTG enquiry, state the requested or existing power approach and the relevant yard movement constraints. For an RMG enquiry, attach the available rail-gauge, track-length, service-location and interface information. For either category, record the required load and duty information as specified by the customer, and separate new-equipment requirements from integration with the existing yard. Do not infer compatibility or productivity from the category name alone.
Mobile harbour cranes and uncertain categories
For a mobile harbour crane enquiry, describe the cargo, handling method, load at the required working radius, quay location and available access. Add movement-space, service-area and interface constraints that the proposal should consider. If you are unsure whether the request belongs under STS, RTG, RMG or mobile harbour cranes, do not choose by guesswork. Submit the cargo-flow description, yard layout, target vessel information and desired outcome and request a category review. More than one scenario can be included in the same file, provided the inputs, questions and attachments for each scenario are clearly separated.
