PRACTICAL GUIDE

Overhead Crane Enquiry Checklist

Use this guide to collect information that supports enquiry review and quotation scope, not as operating instruction or final engineering selection.

Overhead Crane Enquiry Checklist

When information is tied to the correct asset, site and source, it is easier to separate confirmed facts from items that need review. Share what is genuinely known and leave uncertain fields clear instead of adding estimates that could affect the quotation scope.

01

Begin with the building and crane runway

Attach the factory or workshop layout and mark the area the crane is expected to serve and the material flow through it. Record the required span, hook height and available clearance above and around the work area using confirmed drawings or measurements. If a runway or supporting structure already exists, provide its available drawings, data and clear photographs, but do not assume it is suitable for new equipment. Show columns, fixed machinery, openings and areas that must remain accessible. For a new building, submit the latest drawing revision and identify any elements that are still being designed.

02

Describe the load and handling activity

State what will be lifted and the maximum required weight for each case, together with load dimensions, centre information and pickup and placement points when known. Explain the number of workstations or service areas, required movement and the usage pattern expected by the customer. If the crane will support different activities, such as material handling and equipment maintenance, separate them because each creates a different enquiry profile. Add any requested lifting attachment or suspension arrangement for review without selecting a final component from memory. The objective is to explain the work clearly enough for focused questions and options.

03

Record power, environment and existing equipment

Provide the available power information and known factory interfaces exactly as shown in site documents. Describe the operating environment, including indoor or outdoor use and any heat, dust, moisture or cleanliness requirement stated by the customer, without assuming a special classification. For replacement or expansion, attach the available nameplate data, drawings and known modification history of the existing crane or hoist. Note what must remain connected or operational during the project and identify production lines or other systems whose interfaces need to be considered when the enquiry is reviewed.

04

Define scope and required attachments

Separate crane supply from runway, structural, power, installation, commissioning, maintenance and training work. Record the work the customer will provide and the items requested for quotation, together with delivery location and target programme. Attach the general arrangement, building drawings, site photographs, load schedule and any required specification or quotation template. Keep unconfirmed information in a separate question list rather than filling gaps with unlabelled estimates. A structured enquiry supports comparison on a common basis, while verification of the building, supporting structure and final solution remains part of the project's technical review.
